The Swoosh is making waves in South Korea! After dropping the Air Jordan 3 “Seoul 2.0”, they’ve just announced a new footwear project with the talented Hyein Seo.
Bringing an outside collaborator to give brand-new silhouettes a boost of energy and attention is a common practice in the footwear industry. Brands like Nike have been using this strategy for years, and they’re about to do it again with their upcoming AVA Rover silhouette. Who is Hyein Seo, the Korean Fashion Designer?
Hyein Seo is a South Korean fashion designer known for her avant-garde, subversive, and youth-oriented designs that blur the lines between streetwear and high fashion. In 2014, Hyein SEO launched the label after graduating from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium. She gained international recognition early in her career and is considered one of Korea’s most influential young designers. The label and designer have become super famous worldwide thanks to celebrities and critics.
Her designs are usually described as futuristic, militant, and dystopian. They have a strong influences from youth subcultures, streetwear, and post-apocalyptic aesthetics. The collections explore self-expression, rebellion, and identity-type themes.
For their first Nike project, they’re taking over the upcoming AVA Rover sneaker. It’s a lifestyle runner with a futuristic design and digitally inspired details.
Design & Features of HYEIN SEO x Nike AVA Rover
Seo gives the sneaker a cool Sequoia, Black, and Cargo Khaki color scheme, adding these colors to the synthetic overlays. On the midfoot, you’ll see a split design: the top half of the upper has a textured finish, and the bottom is made of pixelated rubber. Everything stays simple, with 3D embroidery and stitching details lining the lacing setup. The tongue has perforations for breathability!
The AVA Rover has a big, cushioned foam midsole that looks like the rubber parts on the top. It’s made with ReactX foam, which is super comfortable. The bottom part of the shoe has a thin waffle pattern that makes it easy to walk on.
The minimalist branding includes a small Swoosh on the lateral forefoot and Hyein Seo’s signature on the sockliner.
