Following the usual pattern for Samsung’s flagship series, the S24 range comprises three models: the S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra. Pricing starts at $800 for the S24, $1,000 for the S24+, and $1,300 for the S24 Ultra.

Before the official announcement, the South Korean tech giant gave a sneak peek of these new devices at its Kings Cross offices in London. During a briefing with reporters, Samsung highlighted the AI capabilities of the phones, demonstrating their ability to edit photos and perform AI-based searches.

For the premium S24 Ultra, the largest and most feature-packed trio, Samsung is incorporating Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon Series 8 Gen 3 chip, optimized for Galaxy. Meanwhile, for the S24 and S24+ models, Samsung is using a combination of Qualcomm systems-on-chips (SoCs) and its own Exynos chipset.

Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight, remarked, “The Galaxy S24 series, along with Google’s Pixel line, signals the beginning of AI becoming a standard feature in smartphones. This trend is expected to be adopted by all smartphone manufacturers, including Apple, as they integrate more AI-powered capabilities into their devices.”

Moreover, he added, “Samsung’s decision to leverage AI-powered features in this launch aims to reignite consumer interest in smartphones, particularly at a time when hardware improvements have been more incremental. Google’s Pixel devices have been pioneers in this regard, and it’s clear that AI will play a prominent role not only in smartphones but also across all consumer electronics in the future.”

Samsung Galaxy S24 vs S23

For many tech enthusiasts, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra takes the spotlight, and its appearance bears a striking resemblance to its predecessor, the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

In terms of hardware, Samsung has made minimal changes. The phone maintains the same size, with a 6.8-inch diagonal display. However, it has a flatter design this time, in contrast to the S23 Ultra, which had more curvature.

The significant improvement in the external hardware of this model is the use of titanium casing, providing increased durability compared to the S23 Ultra.

Samsung AI, the Game Changer

However, the primary difference lies within the device this time. Samsung is placing a strong emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI). Like other smartphone manufacturers, Samsung focuses on “on-demand” AI, allowing the execution of AI tasks directly on the device rather than relying on cloud processing.

Samsung has unveiled its new Galaxy S24 Ultra, boasting many innovative AI features. These features are primarily powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, specially designed for AI-centric devices. This aligns with the ongoing trend among smartphone manufacturers to reignite consumer interest. Consumers are no longer as thrilled by traditional smartphone upgrades as they once were

The Camera Can Do All Things

One notable feature integrated into the Galaxy S24 range allows users to circle locations or objects captured by their camera, enabling AI to provide relevant information about those subjects. For instance, if you spot a landmark or a product you wish to purchase, circle it, and the AI will promptly present you with pertinent Google search results.

Another highlight is the AI-powered photo editing capability. Users can easily remove reflections from their photos, making them more visually appealing, or even relocate subjects within an image by dragging them from one part of the frame to another.

Never Gets Lost Again with S24

Samsung also showcased its live transcription features, which are particularly handy when communicating in different languages. For instance, users can access real-time transcriptions during a conversation with someone speaking in Korean. Additionally, the phones can record conversations between two individuals and transcribe them, with AI attributing labels to each speaker, akin to transcription tools like Otter AI. These features further demonstrate Samsung’s commitment to enhancing user experiences with cutting-edge AI technology.
